Activity 1 - Visibility

This activity is intended to set up a bridge between the results of SafeMed I and the activities under SafeMed II by recalling earlier commitments to achieve the general objectives, by providing all the beneficiaries with basic material for consideration and active participation in the new tasks and stimulating them to actively co-operate to achieve the general and specific objectives of the project.

Task 1.1 Establishment of an overview of the Maritime Administration. Presentation of basic elements resulting from SafeMed I tasks.

This task aims to establish a profile of the Maritime Administrations of the beneficiaries established on the basis of information provided by SafeMed I and updated with any other information available, in particular the information provided by GISIS and the websites of the Maritime Administrations.

Task 1.2 Kick-off meeting with press release (see 1.7)

Task 1.3 Awareness seminars focusing on the specific SafeMed II activities and EU policies

The purpose of this task is to organize in each of the beneficiaries a one day seminar highlighting the role of the EU and the added value brought to maritime safety, pollution prevention and maritime security in the wider European area, the objectives to be achieved by SafeMed II, the foreseen SafeMed II activities and tasks, the role of REMPEC as project manager of SafeMed II and the possibilities for further co-operation through twinning exercises. This task is undertaken with the assistance of the European Commission (EC) and  European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

Task 1.4 Updating of the information provided by the geographical Information System (GIS)

This task aims to upgrade/update the GIS through the acquisition/integration of recent data (2006-2008) and, if necessary and feasible possible additional data and actual features, which is necessary in order to ensure that the system set up under SafeMed I will not become obsolete.

Task 1.5 SafeMed Visibility

This task covers the communication aspects of SAFEMED II, including this enhanced website and creation of a newsletter.

Task 1.6 Improved knowledge of maritime English

This task aims at identifying the available tools to improve knowledge of maritime English.

Task 1.7 Presentation of SafeMed II at the 28th Regular Session of the IMO Assembly

This task aims to prepare a presentation, adapted to the specific audience, highlighting the objectives, the scope and the activities of the SafeMed Project and to deliver this presentation either as a standalone event or integrated in an EU event, in close co-operation with the EC and IMO.
